A house of prayer: choir & string quartet edition
Publisher: LAH Publications
Catalogue Number: LAH 35-2
For: SATB with String Quartet
When performing this choir & string quartet edition of A house of prayer, singers should use the original choir + piano version.
This is a very accessible work written for St Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church and Kurt Ala-Kantti Director of Music, on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Church and the 90th Anniversary of the Parish. The text from Isaiah 56:7, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all people” returns throughout the piece as a refrain, and this refrain lends itself well to congregational participation when used in a church service (reproducible refrain available inside the score). The string quartet version was commissioned by Harmonia Choir of Ottawa, directed by Kurt Ala-Kantti.
From Isaiah 56:7 and “A prayer for those who serve God in the world” by Anon.
My house shall be called a house of prayer for all people.
A prayer for those who serve God in the world
May God take our feet where they need to go.
May He give us hands that readily reach out to others,
May he give us ears to hear the silent cries of another,
May He draw our eyes to see their needs
May he give us hearts to reach out to them.
May we bring God to them in our own unique way.
